Trinity Cemetery in Washington Heights

This rocky hillside, off 155 at Broadway and overlooking the Hudson River, is now home to Trinity Cemetery. In 1776, during the Revolutionary War, it was the site of the second line of defence for the Battle of Fort Washington. In the 1840s, Trinity Church purchased 24 acres of this hillside from John James Audubon, and this land became a burial place. I urge you to research the history of this place. I had only a few hours here and I loved the stones, the trees, the view over the river.
